The Truth About Love (2012)
Although initially viewed as another face in the late-'90s crowd of teen pop acts, Pink (professionally known as P!nk) quickly transcended and outgrew that label with her combination of pop songcraft and powerhouse, rock-influenced vocals. Born Alecia Moore on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Pink received her nickname as a child, years before she dyed her hair accordingly. She grew up in a musical family and was a regular on the Philadelphia club scene by the age of 13, first as a dancer and then as a backing vocalist for the local hip-hop group Schoolz of Thought. At 14, she began writing her own songs; the same year, a local DJ at Club Fever began inviting her on-stage to sing a song every Friday.

A lot has happened to P!nk since the release of her 2008 breakup album, Funhouse, most notably a reconciliation with her estranged husband, Carey Hart, and subsequent birth of their child in 2011. P!nk wrestles with these two life-changing events and many other thorny issues on her 2012 album, The Truth About Love, a vibrant mess of a record that finds the pop star embracing every one of her contradictions. Alone among the class of 2000 -- a group that roughly includes such other new millennium stars as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, and Jessica Simpson -- P!nk comes across as an actual adult, eager to dive into the muck of grown-up emotions, expanding and deepening her music without succumbing to stuffy pretension. She may be deeply invested in being a wife and mother but she's keenly aware of what's happening outside of her house, offering a clever spin on Ke$ha's freak empowerment on the opening "Are We All We Are," enlisting Fun.'s Nate Ruess as a duet partner on "Just Give Me a Reason," and fiendishly stealing some of the Black Keys' moves and retailoring them for the dancefloor on "How Come You're Not Here." P!nk deftly weaves these new threads into a tapestry that contains a few of her signature moves -- there is a handful of confessional power ballads and snotty, funny pure pop disguised as dance hits -- and some surprises, including cameos from Lily Allen ("True Love") and Eminem ("Here Comes the Weekend") and a title track that is as sunny and carnivalesque as a '60s surf-pop sensation. Sometimes the transitions are too sudden, causing some aural whiplash -- that clomping, heavy "Here Comes the Weekend" wouldn't fit neatly into any sequence -- but its ragged edges underscore the essential appeal of The Truth About Love: nothing about it is neat, it shifts courses and refutes itself, it's "nasty and salty," as P!nk herself sings about true love. It's weird and willfully, proudly human, a big pop album about real emotions and one of P!nk's wildest rides.

The Truth About Love is the sixth studio album by American recording artist and songwriter Pink, released on September 14, 2012, by RCA Records. The first single from The Truth About Love, "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" was released in July 2012, the song sat firmly at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks, and went Platinum for over a million copies sold, as well as charting inside the top ten in several other countries. The follow up second single, "Try" received matching success and preceded Pink's fourth Hot 100 #1 hit, third single "Just Give Me a Reason" which made The Truth About Love P!nk's first album since 2001's Missundaztood to spawn more than two Hot 100 Top 10-charting singles, therefore adding up to fourteen Top 10 hits overall.
In the United States, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 281,000 copies in its first week becoming her first number one album there, and has been certified double Platinum by RIAA after shipping over two million copies in the US, thus becoming Pink's first multi-platinum album in over a decade, her last one being Missundaztood.[4][5] The album also debuted at number-one in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, and Switzerland. The Truth About Love was announced as Australia's biggest selling album of the year, Pink's third time at the top of Australia's year-end album chart. It was the sixth best selling album in the world in 2012, with 2.6 million sold.[6]
The Truth About Love samples rock music influences and is generally themed about relationships, breakups and the different stages and cases of love. It features guest stars Eminem, Lily Rose Cooper and Nate Ruess of American band fun. To support the album, Pink began her Truth About Love Tour in February 2013. The tour is expected to continue through 2013 and will include American, Australian and European legs.
